Artist Residencies and Community Events in Jemez Springs New Mexico
Mission Street Arts, located in the awe-inspiring Jemez Valley, exists to further the artistic vision of resident artists and the community by providing facilities in a scenic and supportive environment for artists and involvement in our community through workshops, studio visits, and exhibits. We welcome artists working in diverse fields including stone-carving, sculpture, painting, drawing, performance, printmaking, textile arts, and writing.
The Jemez Springs Valley has long been known as a spiritual and creative location; a perfect place to reconnect with nature and tap into oneself. With healing hot springs, amazing hiking trails, and tranquil national parks nearby, it is the perfect place to focus on creativity.
Mission Street Arts was re-established in 2017 in memory of Mike Murphy by family and friends. Mike Murphy was a long time academic, writer, tai chi enthusiast, stone carver, painter, and block printer. He spent many years as a professor at the University of Texas, as well as studying and living in the Middle East. He visited Jemez Springs throughout his life to take in the hot springs, visit the Zen Center and study stone carving with Rollie Grambois and other carving artists before making Jemez Springs his home in 2001.
